We connect pregnant women together to share stories, expertise and positivity about childbirth. We aim to challenge the epidemic of negativity and fear that surrounds modern birth, and help change birth for the better. Join us as we meet up, link up and shake up birth!
Hello, My name is Emily Sheppard, I am passionate about supporting women to have the positive birth that they want, no matter how or where they are planning to have their baby.
My group is a safe, positive space to talk all things birth to inform and empower women. I want women to know and to understand that they have options and it is them who are in control of any decisions that need to be made. When decisions are made out of information with risks and benefits from both sides then it is much more likely for it to be a positive experience. If decisions are based on fear with a lack of information then it is quite likely to become a traumatic experience which unfortunately happens all to often.
I would love for more women to be able to believe and have confidence in themselves and to trust that their body knows exactly what to do to birth their baby – just as it has grown their baby – as it is a physiological event and not an emergency in the majority of women. ‘Birth is an Emergence, not an Emergency’.
Whether you are pregnant or you have had your baby and you want to share your positive experience (after all, we don’t hear the positive stories in society as often as we should) or you are not pregnant but want to learn more about positive birth, we will be happy to welcome you.
The group takes place the first Friday of every month (except Dec ‘19 which will take place on 13th Dec and Jan ‘20 which will be on 10th Jan).
We meet at the WOW Centre Lancaster
13:30-14:30
Tea/coffee & cakes/biscuits will always be on offer.
It is a free group with donations being greatly appreciated. All donations will go towards my fundraising for The Bay Hospitals Charity – in part for a bedside resus trolley so all babies can receive optimal cord clamping and in part towards a new active birth room with pool at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
I will look forward to meeting you,
Emily xxx
